Our expert Residential team, led by Phil, Mark and Carl, are here to help.
The residential sector is close to our heart, as we believe designing energy-efficiently and in a sustainable way starts at home. BSE 3D is at the forefront of innovative and sustainable home building services designing ultra low energy homes for various private clients.
Bringing Architecture and Engineering together
BSE 3D actively researches what residential buildings can and should be in coming years. The firm’s clients benefit from this knowledge that ensures that housing designed today will maintain its value and be adaptable to future needs.
Working with leading architects and developers, BSE 3D plans, designs and engineers a wide range of residential building types, from bespoke single dwellings, through low-cost modular housing and small villages and resorts, to high-rise multi-unit developments. These help to cater for the move in developed countries towards reduced household size and the need for increased access to public transport, work and urban leisure.
Using Technical skills to find solutions
As available sites for new homes become scarce and demand increases for mixed-use developments, innovative technical design and engineering are needed to make more brownfield and infill sites viable. Off-site PV farms are currently being designed to free up valuable space on site and generate renewable energy in areas that cannot be used for building.
Value and sustainability
Innovative sustainable design is not just for large multi-unit development. There is an acute need and demand for designs and technologies that can be applied to smaller developments. BSE 3D is keen to develop designs and engineering that create more liveable communities, while also generating value. We look to address the planning, design and operation of residential buildings. Performance and return on investment in the sector can be improved through, for example, climate change adaptations, use of sustainable local materials, passive solar design, energy efficiency and renewables, water efficiency and recycling, automated waste systems and construction waste management. BSE 3D can lead, facilitate and administer various sustainability rating systems such as LEED® and BREEAM and support the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Student Accommodation
BSE3D have a passion for education and relate our experiences of being STEM ambassadors against the traditional view of education. The traditional view has been that of a one-way process through which an educator stands before a class to disseminate information for the students to absorb. The next step would then be for the students to undertake related assignments, usually individually, on the various topics they’ve been absorbing.
Classroom teaching traditionally involved the first and second ‘remembering’ and ‘understanding’ components, while students would be tasked to independently work on the more complex ‘application’, ‘analysis’ and ‘evaluation’, typically through projects and assignments. Creating original work — arguably the pinnacle of academic achievement — had become widely associated with postgraduate study, and oftentimes viewed as a requisite to earn a degree such as a doctorate.
BSE3D views on education have evolved to incorporate a more dynamic process offering students a more interactive learning experience. We support Architects to help make spaces for conducive to learning and so that the environment helps maximise performance and doesn’t leave you feeling fatigued. Similarly, ‘active learning’ pedagogies encourage participation, thinking and analysis. Instead of listening passively, students gather data, apply concepts, hold discussions and explore solutions to problems. Studies suggest that increased engagement makes for more effective learning and higher levels of achievement.
